Backstage pass: 3×08

I’m finding that I half wish I’d had work after the show this week. That way, I would have been a lot more likely to write this up immediately, and thereby give all Gracious Readers the benefits of fresh experience and moderate exhaustion. Hopefully everyone is as willing to take what they can get as I am to give what I am able.

Anyway! This week’s show marked the end of our “regular season” (next week’s holiday-themed broadcast is technically… well… something we’re just doing because we want to, and shows in January are of the same mold), the season finale of “Brookshale,” and the first broadcast back from a break. Add to that a devilishly long script and some impromptu adjustments and addenda, and you’ve got the first show in a while that had everyone focused the entirety of the time we spend in the studio before we actually go on the air. New Poll - Old Favorites Reimagined

Hey there, folks. A new poll has been added asking which old school Mr|Tots program you’d like to see revamped and returned to the airwaves. The options: With the Utmost Sincerity, famous for its spectacular Season Two implosion; Old News, the original Mr|Tots short; 5, the thrilling adventure of uber-American Ron Tower(s); That’s Confucius, With Satchmo! in which Louis Armstrong reads from the Confucian Analects; and Learn to Speak Old, the show that gives you the bulge so all the hep cats will think you’re darb. Vote now, and you may hear one of these classic (or not-so-classic) bits returned to the air this spring!

Backstage pass: 3×07

On the off chance that anyone has interest, I present a sleepy, work-addled reflection on this week’s show.

I think this was one of our more harebrained (in a good way) weeks in some ways. Auditions went as auditions do, particularly for “B” scripts. For those unfamiliar with the ways and gambols of MrTots production, auditions are a Wednesday evening venture, often fraught with interruptions, silly voices not pertinent to the characters being read, and endless riffing on the more bizarre audition lines. This Wednesday, our humors on the breezy side, we got to debate altering the dynamic of the wholesome heterosexual couple in one script even as we shrugged at a glancing reference to “‘net hos.” You know. Whatever.

An average evening at auditions.

DEREK: Going once, going twice… congratulations, Kofi. You’re Barlow.
KOFI: (kicks over chair) DAMN IT! I didn’t want to BE in this show!

New Poll - What Do You Want to Hear?

Since we here at the Theater are dedicated to providing you with quality original material, we’d like to know what you’d like to hear performed during the next year. We invite you to vote in our new poll, which offers you five potential projects, all of which are in different stages of development. The five titles are Escape From Giant Nazi Island, Sexy Spider Monsters from Saturn, The Time Presidents in “Rah-Rah-Rasputin”, Kofi’s Big Score or The Poolboy Only Comes Twice a Week, and Chris Kringle: Soldier of Fortune. No other descriptions will be provided, so you’re going on titles alone. Vote now!

New Poll - What Bond Story?

Following last year’s stunning production of Casino Royale, preliminary work has begun on an adaptation of another of Ian Fleming’s James Bond 007 novel. We invite you to vote on which book you’d like to hear adapted and aired this spring. The options: Moonraker, From Russia With Love, Dr. No, Thunderball, and On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. (Terribly sorry, but Die Another Day is not an option.) Poll results will be taken into account during the decision making process. Vote now!
