100th Anniversary of Broadcast Radio

Here we are, December 24th, 2006, 100 years to the day after early radio luminary Reginald Aubrey Fessenden made the first radio broadcast of entertainment and music. On that Christmas eve a century ago Fessenden made a brief broadcast from Brent Rock, MA, in which he read a bible passage, played the violin, played an Edison Phonograph recording of Handel’s Largo and wished listeners — ships passing by — a Merry Christmas.

Here’s to 100 years of broadcast radio — a century of the modern age.
